There has been some pretty big talk around the office about quests since the story re-write when Kurtis Wiebe took over, and as of a few days ago we’ve finally put the finishing touches on the quest system. It all came together without a hitch! This has had an extremely positive effect on the story and the lines each character deliver suddenly feel more important and the story feels more cohesive. Quests do a fine job of drawing the player into the game allowing them to experience it rather than just simply witnessing it.

Along with quests, we’ve added a couple more characters to the stack in my office. You might find meet this particular goldium prospector along your way!

We, once again, have to give a huge thanks to the folks on reddit for this post on the weekend:

reddit: what is the best online flash game that you know?

Many redditors seem to have fond memories of the original Motherload and we’re happy to see people excited about the sequel as well. It helped spread the word of our trailer and Greenlight campaign really quickly, which has gone a long way to increasing the public’s awareness of our game! We’re grateful!

After an extremely hectic couple of weeks we are happy to present to you the first full trailer of Super Motherload! We put this together, along with a brand new demo version of the game, for our submission to the IGF (http://www.igf.com). We are extremely proud of the amount of work that we accomplished especially the in the past couple of weeks we’ve powered through in order to meet the ambitious deadline that we set out to put a polished demo together for our submission. We celebrated on the night of the submission by playing the game with a few brews from 10:00 til about 1:30 am. We were grinning with excitement the whole time and high fived in the elevator as we left the office for the night. There still is plenty of polishing to do, lots of balancing, some art tweaks and additions, bugs to crush and performance improvements. We aren’t home free yet. But I’ll tell ya, it was so nice to be able to play the game that we’ve been hard at work on for the last couple of years. Making games is pretty fun.

Crank the settings on the youtube video to see it at 1080p and mime holding a controller for the full effect.
